BACK / THE DANIEL GOOCH

THE DANIEL GOOCH
2019

The Daniel Gooch pub was located at 40 Porchester Road, until it closed in 2016. Above the pub was a landlord flat in great need of repair. MA produced a design to convert this flat into a modern three bedroom space, extending with a cantilever over the pub entrance to create an enclosed courtyard as amenity space. As a reconfiguration of some of the back of house area, a cinema room now occupies an otherwise unusable space to the rear of the flat. The facade was reclad over the ground and first floors to encompass the new fenestration and to distinguish the pub (then an empty shell awaiting occupancy as a pub, bar or restaurant) and flat from the rest of the residential building.
